AI Search: Brand Discovery and Readiness

AI-assisted discovery and agentic commerce are active topics for retail teams. Their impact varies by audience, product category, geography, and the search or AI system a customer uses. The useful response is to improve the information customers and search systems can reliably access, then measure the outcomes.

For Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, Google states that its existing Search essentials and SEO guidance apply: there are no special technical requirements, AI-specific schema, or llms.txt requirement. A page must be eligible to appear in Search, but that does not guarantee an AI citation, traffic, or recommendation.

Build the durable foundations

Prioritize the work that remains valuable across classic search and changing discovery interfaces:

  • Crawlable, indexable pages with stable URLs and clear internal links.
  • Helpful, original product and editorial content that answers real customer questions.
  • Accurate structured data that matches visible content and supports eligible search features.
  • Accessible text, reliable rendering, current merchant information, and a good page experience.
  • Measurement of qualified visits, conversions, and Search Console signals instead of unverified model-ranking claims.

GEO does not replace SEO

For Google AI features, the documented foundation is ordinary SEO. Treat visibility in other AI products as directional monitoring until you have system-specific, reproducible evidence.

Measure without overclaiming

Use Search Console and analytics to monitor impressions, qualified traffic, conversion paths, and changes by page type. Record observations from other AI products separately, including the exact prompt, date, market, product, and response. Do not infer that a mention is a stable ranking or that a specific technical change caused it.
